Between Centres Turning SIG

This SIG specialises in the technique from which it takes its name, referring to wood that is mounted with the grain running along the lathe bed. Also known as Spindle Turning, this method is used to make tool handles, salt and pepper mills, goblets, scoops, honey-dippers, table legs and many other useful items.

SIG sessions typically include a demonstration of a turning technique by an experienced member, or by a visiting turner. Members may then have an opportunity to practise this technique themselves, under the guidance of the demonstrator and/or other more experienced members.

Session topics can range from basic techniques, such as how to prepare and mount turning blanks, or the use of a specific turning tool, to more advanced methods.

This SIG meets at the home workshop of the SIG Co-ordinator at 1pm for a 1.30pm start on the second Saturday of the month.
